“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like
wrapping a present and not giving it.” –
William Arthur Ward
Two
Christmases ago my wife and I bought a gift for our son that we forgot to give
him. It was the talking phone from Toy
Story 3. We bought it in September when it was on sale and hid it away to
save as a Christmas present. The problem is we forgot about it and when
December rolled around the toy phone never got placed under the Christmas tree.
Luckily, in November of the following year, we stumbled upon the undelivered
present and were able to give it to him that next holiday season.
Just
as we (temporarily) forgot, or were unable to give our gift to our son, William
Arthur Ward reminds us that forgetting to share gratitude is a missed
opportunity to bless someone else. It is, in essence, a failure to give a good
gift to someone we care about. A failure to encourage or thank someone.
Ward’s
comment rings true in or out of the Christmas season and his gift of wisdom
about gratefulness was a present that rose to the 6th most popular
quote of 2018.
