HOW TO BE HUMBLE

James 4:10 says, "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up." This verse has always intrigued me. Biblical commentaries I have read on it seem stress that it means we should always acknowledge our sinfulness and dependence on God and never think ourselves equal to or greater than Him. As a Christian, it felt like I was always taught it meant we needed to not draw attention to ourselves, don't be conceited and self-promote. But as a writer, if I don't promote my works, no one will buy my books and no magazines will publish my articles. So I always felt like this verse put me in a quandary. I wonder how other Christian creative people feel. I am a performer. I thrive on being the center of attention. Again, this verse always seemed to put a damper on that desire. I am 51 years old and still trying to figure all of this stuff out.
